NADI Workshop on “Addressing Climate Change Holistically: Way Forward for Defence-Focused Contribution”
The NADI Workshop on “Addressing Climate Change Holistically: Way Forward for Defence-Focused Contribution”, organised by the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS), Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam, was held virtually from 17 to 18 May 2022. Mr Abdul Malik Kamis, Acting Director of SHHBIDSS, chaired the Meeting.
The NADI Workshop acknowledged that climate change could threaten political, economic and societal stability, as well as affect food, water and health security. The NADI delegates identified how climate change could affect military operations, assets, infrastructure and personnel, and agreed on the important role of military establishments in climate change mitigation and adaptation. The delegates provided recommendations, for the consideration of the ADMM, on how defence establishments of ASEAN Member States could enhance cooperation in addressing climate change.
