NADI 16th Annual Meeting on “Strengthening Defence and Security for ASEAN as ‘Epicentrum of Growth’”
The NADI 16th Annual Meeting on “Strengthening Defence and Security for ASEAN as ‘Epicentrum of Growth’”, organised by the Center for Strategic Studies, Research and Development Tentara Nasional Indonesia (CSSRD-TNI), Indonesia, was held from 13 to 16 March 2023. Major General Agape Zacharia R. Dondokambey, S.E., M.Han., Chief of CSSRD-TNI, chaired the Workshop.
The NADI Annual Meeting discussed the various defence and security issues that ASEAN Member States (AMS) face. The delegates agreed that even though great power rivalry and the geopolitical tensions it brings to the region are front and centre, other non-traditional security challenges like climate changes and food security are no less important and should be addressed. The Annual Meeting deliberated on how these threats could unravel the stability and economic growth enjoyed by AMS. The delegates considered the importance of trust-building efforts among AMS, and how the ADMM-Plus and other platforms could be used to continue engaging Dialogue Partners. To that end, the delegates provided recommendations, for the consideration of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and ASEAN, to further regional cooperation in defence and security areas to maintain the hard-earned peace and prosperity the region has enjoyed.
The Chairman’s Report of the NADI Annual Meeting, together with the agenda and programme, are attached.
