Dr Ngiam Tong Tau

Dr Tong Tau Ngiam has been an Executive Vice President of United Engineers Ltd since 2005. Dr. Ngiam served as the Chief Executive Officer of Agri Food & Veterinary Authority from 1991 to 2005. Dr. Ngiam served for Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore for 21 years during which time he spear-headed successful programmes in agrotechnology, aquaculture and food safety. He has more than 35 years experience in the fields of veterinary medicine and public health, agriculture and aquaculture.
Dr. Ngiam has also successfully established programmes to ensure food supply and food safety in Singapore through the formation of a highly trained and professional team in the AVA. He retired from AVA in August 2005. Dr. Ngiam has been a Director of Tropical Marine Science Institute since 2001, Wildlife Reserves Singapore Pte Ltd. since 2000, Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory Ltd since 2002, AgriFood Technologies Pte Ltd., since 2003, Zagro Asia Ltd. since November 18, 2009 and AgriFood and Veterinary Authority since 2005. Dr. Ngiam served as an Independent Director at Oceanus Group Limited from April 29, 2008 to June 30, 2014 and also served as its Lead Independent Director until June 30, 2014. He has been the Chairman of Genetic Modification Advisory Committee of Singapore since 2003; Chairman of Advisory Panel of Food Innovation & Resource Centre, Singapore Polytechnic since 2007; and Member of Advisory Panel, Applied Life Science Department of Temasek Polytechnic since 2007.
Dr. Ngiam served as an Adjunct Professor at the National University of Singapore's Department of Biological Sciences from 1993 to 2005. He is recognized as the architect of modern farming and agrotechnology parks in Singapore and has been responsible for the transfer of farming technology to several countries in the region. He has been awarded the Public Administration Medal(Gold), the Friend of Labour and the NTUC Meritorious Service Medal. Dr. Ngiam graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in1968. He also obtained a degree of Doctor of Philosophy from Royal Veterinary College of the University of London in 1974.
