The World Humanitarian Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 23 and 24 May 2016 was aimed at promoting a world humanitarian system that is fit for today and in the future. In the same year that the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre) celebrates its 5 year anniversary, it is timely to take stock of the achievements made to date and strategize for the next five to ten years to realize the global commitments made earlier this year. This policy discussion aims to inspire the thinking and action towards the implementation of the WHS Core Responsibilities and to contribute to the advancement of the Agenda for Humanity in a regional context over the next decade. The overall objective is to have a substantive discussion on the progress of humanitarian reform and opportunities in the region towards realizing a robust and effective humanitarian system. Discussion will also focus on how to strengthen the capacities of regional organizations to implement the WHS core responsibilities through regional organizations.
