- Is the End Nigh for American Democracy? – Opinion
Dr Adam Garfinkle, a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at RSIS and the founding editor of The American Interest, wrote an opinion piece on the current state of US politics. He said that the reports of President Trump being infected with Covid-19 “added new uncertainties and complexities to an already convoluted situation.” He noted that the 2020 US presidential elections’ legitimacy and integrity were “beclouded by an unprecedented combination of three disruptive influences: foreign interference; the novel logistical distortions of Covid-19; and an incumbent President who, unlike any of his predecessors, vowed not to recognise the legitimacy of any result that counted him the loser.”
…Adam Garfinkle is the Founding Editor of The American Interest and a Distinguished Visting Fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University.
