Inaugural NADI Meeting 2007
The inaugural meeting of the Track II Network of ASEAN Defence and Security Institutions (NADI) was organised by the S.Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University at the Marina Mandarin Hotel from the 22 - 23 August 2007.
Representatives of ASEAN defence and security think tanks and defence ministry institutions attended the inaugural meeting. They discussed and exchanged views on the agenda items of (a) regional security outlook, (b) prospects for ASEAN security and defence cooperation and recommendations for cooperation and (c) recommendation to establish the Track II Network of ASEAN defense and security institutions
The meeting had substantive exchange of views on the afore-mentioned topics. They concluded that NADI would be a relevant and useful forum in the ongoing process of creating an ASEAN Security Community.
They believed that NADI meetings would promote dialogues between the ASEAN defence and security institutions and could provide the ASEAN defence track with fresh ideas. The meeting also agreed to submit the NADI Chairman’s Report to the ADSOM and recommended that the ADMM to endorse and support the establishment of NADI.
The host of the NADI meeting will rotate in alphabetical order and will coincide with the ASEAN countries hosting the ADMM. The meeting also agreed that RSIS would serve as the Secretariat of NADI.
The ADSOM held in October 2007 considered the NADI Chairman’s Report and acknowledged that NADI was a useful forum to build confidence and familiarity among ASEAN think tanks and research institutions and that it could provide the ASEAN defence track with fresh ideas. ADSOM decided to place NADI’s Report in its formal agenda.
The inaugural NADI Chairman’s Report is in the list of NADI documents below.
