Seventh NADI Meeting 2014
“The 7th NADI Annual Meeting was hosted by the Strategic Studies Department, the Office of the Armed Forces Training, The Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Myanmar, at Nay Pyi Taw from 7 to 10 April 2014 . In view of the changing political and security environment in East Asia in the last two years, the NADI meeting reviewed the political and security environment in the region and its impact on the regional architecture as well as on Asean and Asean’s centrality. The meeting also discussed the focus of ADMM and ADMM Plus cooperation in the near future in addition to ongoing cooperation like joint exercises and tabletop exercises that are aimed at building confidence. In view of recent major natural disasters like earthquakes and resulting tsunamis, and typhoon which have caused serious damage and loss of lives to certain regional countries, Asean countries should now focus on enhancing its capabilities , human resources and technical capabilities through cooperation and assistance from the Plus countries in accordance with the concept paper for ADMM Plus cooperation. This cooperative approach will enable Asean countries to be able to respond to such challenges in their countries and at the regional level in the future. The meeting also reviewed the work of NADI and its recommendations since its establishment in 2007, and drew the attention of ADSOM and the ADMM track to NADI’s inputs on ADMM and ADMM Plus cooperation.
