    The S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), a Graduate School of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, is a leading research-intensive and teaching institution in strategic and international affairs and policy-oriented think-tank in the Asia Pacific region.

    We invite suitably qualified applicants to join us for the following positions:-


    Research Fellow (Centre for Multilateralism Studies)

    The successful applicant will join CMS’ research programme to investigate the impacts of heightened security competition on (1) economic and trade multilateralism and (2) security cooperation in ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific. This includes writing academic articles, policy reports, and commentaries, as well as contributing towards the Centre’s courses, events, capacity-building, and networking activities.

    Research Fellow / Associate Research Fellow / Senior Analyst / Research Analyst (Maritime Security Programme)

    The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the Programme through doing research, data management and publication on maritime security issues. In addition, the successful applicant will assist with arranging courses, seminars, conferences and workshops for the programme.

    Researcher (Indonesia Programme)

    The successful applicant will be expected to undertake research pertaining to Indonesia’s defence, military and foreign policies, as well as Indonesian political developments. The researcher is expected to carry out field research, and publish reports and commentaries. The researcher will also be expected to monitor regional media and perform translation from Bahasa Indonesia to English and vice versa. The researcher will also assist in organising conferences and seminars, assist in initiatives relating to grants for the programme, contribute towards the programme’s networking activities and assist with administrative work as required.

    Associate Research Fellow (Centre for Non-traditional Security Studies)

    The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the Centre’s Programmes on  climate security and planetary security, as well as to contribute to the Centre’s publications. In addition, the successful applicant will assist with arranging courses, seminars, conferences and workshops for the Centre.

    Associate Research Fellow / Research Fellow (Military Transformations Programme)

    The Military Transformations Programme (MTP) focuses on emerging military technology and innovation issues and their impact on strategic stability, regional military balances, and long-term military-strategic competition. A key area of research is military Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it relates to responsible governance, arms control and disarmament, international law, and norms. MTP also examines the implications of emerging military technologies in contested domains – outer space, underwater, cyber – and how selected countries, militaries, tech companies, and international organisations are implementing an operationalising military innovation, and why.

    As a part of MTP, applicants can expect to contribute to the School’s multidisciplinary research agenda, team research and policy-oriented projects, and organise conferences and seminars.

    Junior Researcher (National Security Studies Programme)

    The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the research output of the programme which includes policy papers, outreach programmes and executive education. The candidate should have suitable academic or relevant work experience in the field of national security policy and strategy. He / She will also be required to carry out some administrative work.

    Junior Researcher (Studies in Inter-Religious Relations in Plural Societies Programme)

    Applicants should possess a degree in Islamic studies with at least 2 years’ experience in basic research methodology and project management. Applicants should also possess good writing and research skills with an aptitude and interest for in-depth research in the relevant field. Fluency in Arabic, English and Malay is preferred to facilitate research in religious/inter-religious issues, conflicts and peace-building efforts.

    Senior Analyst​ / Associate Research Fellow (Centre for Multilateralism Studies)

    Research Analyst / Senior Analyst / Associate Research Fellow (China Programme)

    The successful applicant will conduct research on China’s security and foreign policies, in particular its relationship with Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific in general. The successful applicant are expected to disseminate the research to a wider audience through writing commentaries and op-eds. The successful applicant is expected to be involved in research, and organizing events, including performing administrative duties where required, for the school.

    Research Analyst / Senior Analyst (Malaysia Programme)

    The successful applicant will assist in managing research projects and undertake research and reporting on current developments in Malaysia.  Administrative duties will include working with research partners and administrative colleagues, organising events, and managing the programme’s budget.
