Abstract
The evolving geopolitical environment over the recent years portends further disruption to lives and livelihoods, including rising conflict and political instability; global economic fragmentation; the expansion of multilateral frameworks; and leadership transitions. The question that this roundtable event addresses, is whether the evolving global order is leading to a transformation in the landscape and governance of non-traditional security (NTS) issues. These issues include the climate crisis; water and food security; energy security; gender security; and health security, among others. The roundtable event seeks to identify the linkages between the evolving global order and the state and governance of NTS challenges, within Southeast Asia and beyond. These include the intersection of these compounding threats, and the evolving landscape of actors – both state and non-state – who are engaged in the way these threats are addressed. It will explore how a more comprehensive governance approach can be achieved that cuts across disciplinary silos, to better respond to the evolving global order while ensuring the protection of human security. Alongside this roundtable, a session (closed door and for invited participants only) is also being organised to discuss a working project on translating planetary health ideas to policy, with reference to the Planetary Health (PH) Alliance roadmap and how to ensure that policy frameworks generated retain the spirit of PH especially when it overlaps with other sustainability principles on the ground.
