Abstract:

The state of Selangor is known as Malaysia’s economic powerhouse, as it contributes almost one quarter of Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).  Selangor has the largest and most developed economy in Malaysia with an excellent infrastructure and connectivity, high standard of living and the lowest poverty rate in the country.  As such, Selangor’s economic performance has a significant impact on Malaysia’s economic performance.  Political developments in Selangor have also undergone periods of flux over the past few years.  Change in the top leadership in the state has had implications for the political stability of the state. This seminar will feature Selangor state assemblymen from the different political parties. They will explore the prospects, challenges, and future trajectory of the economic and political developments in Selangor.
