Abstract
Since assuming the Indonesian presidency on 20 October 2024, Prabowo Subianto has brought a more dynamic and proactive approach to the country’s foreign policy. Amid intensifying great power rivalries, regional conflicts and global economic downturn, he sets ambitious aims for eight percent economic growth, stronger military capabilities, and increased participation in international forums. Upon entering its one-hundred days in office by end of January 2025, international community has been mulling over in what ways the Prabowo administration seeks to navigate a complex geopolitical landscape to achieve these strategic goals. This seminar intends to ponder the direction and identify the elements of continuity and change of Indonesia’s foreign policy under President Prabowo Subianto.
About the Speaker
Iis Gindarsah is a Senior Advisor at Laboratorium Indonesia 2045 (LAB 45). Mr Gindarsah holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (2010). He also earned a master’s degree in international relations from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia (2009). His research interests include military technological innovations, civil-military relations, defence diplomacy, and the regional security complex in East Asia. He has published essays and commentaries on these topics in edited volumes, peer-reviewed journals, and media outlets, including Defense and Security Analysis, Contemporary Southeast Asia, RSIS Working Paper, Indonesia Quarterly, and The Jakarta Post.
