Lecture Abstract:
Wong Chen will speak on key recent political and economic realities and trends in Malaysia. His briefings to investors, regional bankers, international rating agencies and diplomats are well received and appreciated. In this briefing, he will focus on Q1 economic trends, fiscal challenges, China’s investments and the Aramco deal. He will also share his thoughts on the prospects of the coming GE14 and the most important policies of the future Pakatan Harapan government.
Subsequently, Shaun Kua will speak on Malaysian Voter Sentiment since GE13. INVOKE Malaysia has recently conducted a 100,000-respondent political survey, the first of its kind in Malaysia. Using this data, INVOKE will assess the impact of major political events such as GST, 1MDB, PAS leaving Pakatan Rakyat and the split of BERSATU from UMNO on voter sentiment. It will offer insights into the likely trajectory of the Malaysian political landscape for the next one to two years.”
About the Speakers:
YB Wong Chen is the Member of Parliament for Kelana Jaya, Malaysia and was elected into office in 2013. Previously a corporate lawyer for two decades, he now runs public policy research and the head of the Investment and Trade Bureau for Parti Keadilan Rakyat. His office was responsible for the alternative budgets of Pakatan Harapan for 2016 and also for 2017. He is a founding non-executive member of INVOKE Malaysia.
Mr Shaun Kua is a law graduate of Oxford University, Shaun was one of the first three volunteers of INVOKE. He is now the Chief Strategy Officer of INVOKE and responsible for developing the analytics-driven approach used by INVOKE, including the conceptualisation and implementation of the proprietary polling center. Shaun was formerly an active student leader and the president of Oxford University’s Malaysia Club.
