EU-Singapore Dialogue: Addressing Security Challenges in a Changing World
The strong relationship that Singapore shares with the European Union (EU) is set to deepen significantly in the coming years. In October 2018, the two sides signed a Free Trade Agreement, an Investment Protection Agreement, and a Framework Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation. These accords will open a new chapter in the relationship between the two, paving the way for a more comprehensive and wide-ranging relationship.
A one-day conference was held on 30 January 2019 to discuss future prospects for security co-operation between both parties, focusing on cybersecurity, counter-terrorism and maritime security. Co-organised by the European Union Delegation to Singapore, the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) and the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), the “EU-Singapore Dialogue: Addressing Security Challenges in a Changing World” featured a number of academics and public officials from the European Union and Singapore.
An open letter signed by Dr Gustav Lindstrom, Director of EUISS, and Amb Ong Keng Yong, Executive Deputy Chairman of RSIS, summarising the key takeaways and avenues for further cooperation is available here: Open Letter.
