A Tale of Two Scenarios: The Evolution of the Asia-Pacific Regional Security Landscape

The dramatic rise of China and the raging Sino-US strategic rivalry are driving a profound transformation of the Asia-Pacific security landscape. The future of regional strategic outlook hinges to a large extent on the evolution of Sino-US relations. A conflict between China and the United States would result in a binary and antagonistic mode, featured with deep division and fierce confrontation, while a Sino-US grand bargain would lead to a scenario characterised by the interplay among multiple actors with a blend of cooperation, hedging and competition.
