Biography

Jonghyuk Lee is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), and vice director of the Sungkyun Institute of China Studies (SICS). He previously served as an assistant professor at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University, and held a postdoctoral fellowship at Tsinghua University. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from UC San Diego and an M.A. in East Asian Studies from Harvard University.

An expert in Chinese politics and authoritarian governance, he is recognized for his innovative application of machine learning and AI in comparative politics. His research has appeared in journals such as PNAS, Research and Politics, Party Politics, and Journal of Contemporary China. He also contributes to policy debates, with his commentary featured in outlets like The Diplomat, South China Morning Post, Channel News Asia, JoongAng Ilbo, and Chosun Ilbo, among others.
