Mohamed Nassir is Head at the Studies in Inter-Religious Relations in Plural Societies Programme (SRP), part of the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
Mohamed Nassir graduated in December 2017 with a Master of Arts (Religion in Global Politics) from the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS, University of London). At SOAS, he studied Religion in Global Politics, Early Development of Islam, Modern Trends in Islam, Southeast Asia History, and completed his dissertation on “The Effectiveness of Malaysia’s Counter-Extremism Strategies”. His first degree was in Information Systems, having graduated in 2001 with a First-Class Honours Degree (B.Sc.) from Staffordshire University (UK). He is currently enrolled in the doctorate program at the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (ISTAC-IIUM).
Mohamed Nassir worked for some years in the software development industry before moving to the field of Islamic education. He worked at the Muslim Converts Association of Singapore (MCAS) or Darul Arqam (Missionary & IT Department, 1998 to 2000), and then at the Abdul Aleem Siddique Mosque as the Mosque Manager (2002-2007). In 2007, he founded the SimplyIslam Education Group and was its CEO till 2023.
Mohamed Nassir attained international and local standing – he was listed in “The 500 Most Influential Muslims 2009” [click here] and “The 500 Most Influential Muslims 2010” [click here] published by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (Jordan) [website] and The Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim Christian Understanding (Georgetown University, USA) [website]. In December 2010, he was mentioned in a Berita Harian article (“Kenali 50 Wajah”) as among four individuals who are expected to play a crucial role in directing and shaping the ‘face’ of the Singapore Malay-Muslim community.
Mohamed Nassir is also regularly featured and interviewed in the local media discussing issues of national and community interests and has appeared in numerous newspaper articles and current affairs programs (documentaries).
