Terence Lee is Senior Fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University. He was previously a tenured Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore. He specializes in the study of civil-military relations, Southeast Asian politics and international security. He earned his Ph.D. and M.A degrees in Political Science from the University of Washington, Seattle. Dr Lee also holds a M.Sc. in Strategic Studies from the Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and a Bachelor of Arts (Distinction) degree in Political Science and Southeast Asian Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is author of the book, Defect or Defend: Military Responses to Popular Protests in Authoritarian Asia (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2015). His other publications have appeared in many internationally peer-reviewed journals including Asian Survey, Armed Forces & Society, Comparative Political Studies, Contemporary Southeast Asia, Foreign Policy, Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs, and Pacific Review. Professionally, Dr Lee is on the editorial boards of the journal Armed Forces & Society and Government & Opposition and a Council Member of the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society.
