Dr Bich Tran (pronounced “Bik Trahn”) is a Research Fellow with the Military Transformations Programme, Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University.
Prior to her current position, she held a Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, where she authored a book examining Vietnam’s grand strategy and strategic adjustments in the post-Cold War era. She also played a key role in organising an international workshop on the strategic positioning of Southeast Asian states between China and the United States.
Dr Tran has been affiliated with prominent think tanks, including the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, and East-West Center. She has been invited to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue multiple years, the Young Strategists Forum in 2025, and the International Strategy Forum in 2024.
Her research portfolio encompasses grand strategy and issues at the intersection of geopolitics and technology. Examples include cybersecurity, outer space security, maritime domain awareness, and subsea cable resilience, amongst others.
Dr Tran holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Antwerp, Belgium.
