Navigating AI and Digital Threats – A Learning Journey
22 Jul 2025

RSIS, together with the Academy of Singapore Teachers (AST), hosted a learning journey for teachers from Singapore’s Ministry of Education on 22 July 2025. Themed “Navigating AI, Cybersecurity, and Guarding Against Digital Deception in Singapore”, the session provided the teachers valuable perspectives on some of the most pressing digital challenges today.

Two experts from RSIS led the discussions. Mr Benjamin Ang, Senior Fellow and Head of the Centre of Excellence for National Security (CENS), who also oversees Future Issues in Technology (FIT) and Digital Impact Research, spoke about the cybersecurity challenges in an AI-driven world. Dr Gulizar Haciyakupoglu, Research Fellow at CENS, delved into the dangers of DRUMS (Distortion, Rumours, Untruths, Misinformation, and Smears) and their impact on society.

Mr Adrian Tan, Chief of Policy Research, Head of Special Projects, and Deputy Director of the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (IDSS), welcomed the educators at the start of the session. He also took part in the Q&A segment, where he addressed questions related to defence and security in Southeast Asia and the broader region.

Through this session, participants gained a deeper understanding of the digital risks confronting Singapore and how collective awareness and action can help build a more resilient and informed society.
