Memories of Learning Beyond the Classroom
Beyond the classroom, students also took part in a range of activities that complemented their academic studies.
The first was a visit to The Albatross Files exhibition, which offered insights into Singapore’s path to independence through declassified documents and historical records. The self-guided visit encouraged discussion and debate as students connected the geopolitical events of 1965 with concepts explored in their studies.
Our students also participated in a guided tour of the Parliament of Singapore, which gave students valuable and eye-opening insights into Singapore’s legislative process and institutions. Seeing the parliamentary chamber firsthand gave students a deeper appreciation of how governance and policymaking work in practice, complementing the theories discussed in class.
Students from the AS6029 Governance and Security in Myanmar course also explored the “Just like this, again this time: Paintings from Myanmar” exhibition at the SMU de Suantio Gallery. The visit encouraged students to examine Myanmar’s political and social realities through visual art, offering a different perspective on themes discussed in class.
Together, these experiences enriched RSIS students’ academic journey and demonstrated how meaningful insights can also be found beyond the classroom.
Farewell and good luck, Class of 2026/27!
At the end of the academic year in May 2026, RSIS celebrated the graduating MSc cohort at a farewell lunch hosted by Prof Kumar Ramakrishna, Dean of RSIS, and Head of Graduate Studies Assoc Prof Li Mingjiang. The gathering offered a chance for students to reflect on their academic journeys, reconnect with faculty and friends, and look ahead to the next chapter. In his remarks, Prof Kumar encouraged the graduating class to remain connected with one another and continue engaging with the wider RSIS community.
